The Benefit of His Life
Text: Luke 17:28-32
Luke is writing to the philosophical and intellectual Greeks of his day in the Gospel of Luke and he closes the Book with the ascension of Christ, Luke 24:45-53.
When Luke takes pen in hand a second time it is a continuation of thought, he begins where he left off…the ascension of Christ, Acts 1:6-11.Luke is the only Author who penned the words of Christ in Luke 19:13, “Occupy till I come.” And so it is no surprise that he writes a journal regarding the occupation of the Apostles after the ascension of Christ otherwise known as the Acts of the Apostles. Read Acts 1:1, 6-11!
There is a constant theme found flowing from the pen of Luke and this is “Jesus is coming again.” In Luke 17 we will discover the events leading up to and the conditions surrounding this ever expected event!Read Luke 17:28-32!
We now come upon the place in our character study where we can truly benefit from the lessons in the life of Lot.
Proposition: Everyone should prepare for the Rapture of the Church because of the truths revealed in the Life of Lot!
A Similar Event – “Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot…Even thus shall it be…”
The “days of Lot” are used to Parallel the Coming!
The “days of Lot” are used to Prepare the Christians!
The “days of Lot” are used to Pre-warn of Condemnation!
Luke 21:31 “So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.”
Can you see the parallel between Lot’s day and our world?Are you prepared for what is supposed to come next?Are you warning those around you of the condemnation to come?
A Sudden Event – “the same day Lot went out”
No time to prepare!
You will Leave Behind Unspiritual Possessions!
You will Leave Behind Unsaved People!
Who will you leave behind?Will you be left behind?What preparations are you making for this trip?
A Saving/Sparing Event – “Lot went out, it rained fire and brimstone and destroyed them all.”
Pre-Tribulation Rapture Truth!
“went out” - 1831. exerchomai,ex-er'-khom-ahee-come forth, John 11:44
Delivered from the Condemnation!
II Peter 2:6 “And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;
7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:”
Delivered by Conversion!
Revelation 3:10 “Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.”
Delivered by Character!
Genesis 18:25 That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?
A Sorting Event – “Remember Lots wife…the one shall be taken the other left.”
True Character will be Revealed – Abraham was counting Lot’s wife with the righteous but Abraham was not omniscient as God is!
